Ai Enma and her companions continue to offer their service of revenge against those who have wronged others, and the price is as steep as ever.
Ai Enma and her companions continue to offer their service of revenge against those who have wronged others, and the price is as steep as ever—for damning the offender to hell, the person exacting vengeance is sent to the abyss as well. As they cast soul after soul into the darkness, a new sinister force is watching them: a little girl named Kikuri. While Ai continues her duties, she meets a boy named Takuma Kurebayashi, known as the "Devil's Child" because of the horrific events that occur around him. Unfortunately, Takuma's reputation leads the townspeople to use him as a scapegoat for those who have been ferried off to hell. When things quickly spiral out of control, Ai must find a way to bring an end to this senseless violence, as it poses a threat to her very existence. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

7/10 AniList: [link [https://anilist.co/anime/1594/Hell-Girl-Two-Mirrors/]] I watched the first season of Hell Girl way back when (which, in practice, is like 21 months ago, but I've watched a lot in that time!) and wrote that it was bordering on a 9 or 10, just opting to give it the 10 despite a slow start. The series built up beautifully, starting out with stand-alone episodes but slowly integrating the wider story before building into an all-encompassing finale. So needless to say, I was willing to be somewhat patient when the second season, Two Mirrors, started out incredibly slowly, with each episode being a self-contained story that almost felt indistinguishable from the early episodes of the first season. It did pick up, but it took a lot longer this time, and the payoff just doesn't deliver on the slow burn. More, with some spoilers below the read more. ---------------------------------------- It feels almost disingenuous to say that Two Mirrors simply 'starts out' slowly, though. It takes until over halfway through its 26 episode life for it to show anything that branches away from the foundations already built by the first season, and even when it does, it offers little in the way of progression or development. There are a handful of episodes that focus on the backstories of the supporting cast, and while those add a nice touch of deeper character, they really aren't that different from the average episodes. It's only within the last 5 episodes or so - again,...
